Chronicles of a
Young American Indian Little Hawk is the adopted grandson of Black Hawk,
the legendary war leader of the Sauk, Fox and Kickapoo tribes during the Black
Hawk War in 1832. The young teenager sets out to find his mother’s kin who
are living within the Ute Indian Nation in the Land of the Sun among the Front Range Mountains of Colorado. Along the way, Little Hawk is befriended by an injured wolf he names Lobo. Nearing the
end of his journey, and within sight of his mother’s homeland, Little Hawk is captured
by Oglala Lakota braves and taken to their village in Sioux Territory north of
the Platte River. There, he must become one of them and take up the ways of the
Plains People or run the risk of being killed as an outsider.
